KIDS IN THE KITCHEN

Inside-Out Sandwiches
While slicing cheese, have children separate and tear lettuce leaves.  Let them wrap shaved deli meat, cheese and lettuce around a soft breadstick.  Serve with milk or juice.

Banana Pops
Cut the tops off bananas to make them easier to peel.  Have kids peel bananas.  Insert popsicle sticks, then dip in yogurt and roll in granola or chopped nuts.  Place on baking sheets lined with waxed paper.  Freeze before eating.  Serve with milk.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Veggies and Dip
Help children measure ingredients for a vegetable dip.  Have them mix the dip and scrub a variety of vegetables.  Help with peeling, cutting and arranging the vegetables on a platter.  Serve with pita wedges or crunchy breadsticks and water.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Snack Mix
Let children choose an assortment of cereal and dried fruit.  Have them pour pretzels and other ingredients into a large bowl or resealable bag, and stir or shake to mix.  Serve with juice.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Homemade Butter
Pour whipping cream into a jar with a tight fitting lid.  Let each child take a turn shaking the jar until it forms solid butter, then spread on raisin or cinnamon bread.  Serve with milk.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cheese Shapes
Have children cut sliced cheese into shapes with cookie cutters while you cut apples into wedges.  Serve apple slices with cheese shapes and water.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fruit in a Cone*
Help children chop fresh fruit or drain canned fruit.  Allow them to fill an ice cream cone with their favorites and top with crushed cereal and a dollop of vanilla yogurt.  Serve with milk.
